Flights between Victoria Falls and Masvingo are also operating during the Expo period, linking two important tourism destinations within the country. The introduction of the services responds to increased demand created by the international tourism event and demonstrates the role of aviation in supporting major tourism gatherings.

Strong Passenger Demand Highlights Need for Better Regional Air Links

The inaugural flights recorded strong passenger turnout, reflecting demand for improved connectivity to Masvingo. The response highlights the importance of expanding domestic air links to provinces with significant tourism, heritage and investment potential. Masvingo is home to some of Zimbabwe’s most important cultural and historical attractions, including the renowned Great Zimbabwe National Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Improved accessibility can encourage more visitors to explore the region while supporting local businesses, accommodation providers and tourism operators. The new flight connections demonstrate how transport infrastructure can contribute directly to tourism growth by making destinations easier to reach for both domestic and international travellers.

Sanganai Hlanganani Expo Creates Platform for Zimbabwe Tourism Promotion

The Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe World Tourism Expo is one of Zimbabwe’s leading tourism industry events, bringing together travel buyers, exhibitors, tourism businesses and international stakeholders. Hosting the event in Masvingo provides an opportunity to showcase the province’s cultural heritage, natural attractions and investment opportunities.

The additional Air Zimbabwe flights support the success of the Expo by allowing participants to travel more efficiently between major gateways and the host destination. Tourism exhibitions rely heavily on accessibility, and improved transport links can influence participation from international and regional markets. By connecting Harare, Victoria Falls and Masvingo, the initiative strengthens Zimbabwe’s ability to host major tourism events outside traditional urban centres.

Air Zimbabwe Supports National Tourism Growth Through Improved Connectivity

The launch of the Masvingo services reflects Air Zimbabwe’s continued focus on strengthening domestic connectivity. Reliable air transport plays an important role in supporting tourism expansion, especially in countries with diverse attractions spread across large geographical areas. Zimbabwe’s tourism offering includes wildlife destinations, cultural heritage sites, adventure experiences and natural landscapes.

Improved domestic flight connections can help visitors combine multiple destinations within a single itinerary, increasing tourism spending and encouraging longer stays. The partnership between Air Zimbabwe, ZTA and the Ministry of Tourism demonstrates cooperation between aviation and tourism sectors to support national economic development.

ATR 42 and Dash 8 Aircraft Support Regional Flight Operations

The Masvingo services are being operated using ATR 42 and Dash 8 aircraft, suitable for regional routes and domestic connectivity. Air Zimbabwe is working with key aviation stakeholders, including:

These partnerships ensure that airport infrastructure, operational support and passenger services are prepared for the increased activity during the Expo period. Effective coordination between airlines, aviation authorities and airports is essential for maintaining reliable services and supporting tourism growth.

Masvingo Gains Greater Tourism Potential Through Enhanced Accessibility

The introduction of direct flights strengthens Masvingo’s position as an emerging tourism destination within Zimbabwe. The province combines historical attractions, cultural experiences and natural landscapes, offering opportunities for heritage tourism and regional exploration. Their improved connection with Harare and Victoria Falls could encourage more travellers to include Masvingo in wider Zimbabwe itineraries.

Victoria Falls remains one of Africa’s most recognised tourism destinations, while Harare serves as a major international entry point. Connecting these locations with Masvingo creates opportunities for multi-destination travel experiences.

Aviation and Tourism Partnerships Drive Zimbabwe’s Visitor Economy

The Air Zimbabwe and ZTA collaboration demonstrates how aviation partnerships can support broader tourism objectives. Transport accessibility is a key factor influencing destination competitiveness, and improved connections can help regions attract more visitors, investment and business opportunities.

The Masvingo flights represent a targeted initiative linked to a major tourism event, but they also highlight the longer-term importance of strengthening Zimbabwe’s domestic aviation network. As tourism demand continues evolving, improved regional connectivity will remain essential for unlocking the potential of destinations beyond major cities.

Air Zimbabwe Strengthens Zimbabwe Tourism Network Ahead of Future Growth

The introduction of flights to Masvingo ahead of the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe World Tourism Expo is a major milestone in enhancing access to tourism destinations in Zimbabwe. In connecting Harare, Victoria Falls, and Masvingo, Air Zimbabwe has been facilitating the mobility of visitors while emphasizing the role of domestic air travel in tourism development.

The project embodies a larger national strategy aimed at promoting the heritage, destinations, and investments of Zimbabwe. Through the collaboration of airlines, tourism boards, and aviation authorities, Zimbabwe is creating a more integrated tourism environment that will facilitate future growth of tourism in Zimbabwe.
