This weekend marked the inaugural commercial flights of the second A320neo aircraft, which has now become part of Azores Airlines‘ fleet. This addition reflects the ongoing effort to gradually update the airline’s fleet by replacing older A320ceo models with the latest and most advanced equipment available.
Regarding the integration of this second A320neo aircraft into the airline’s fleet, Teresa Gonçalves, CEO of the SATA Group, highlights the relevance that this moment has in the history of an airline. “This is a moment we are experiencing with special enthusiasm, as it represents the accomplishment of a significant step in the consolidation of the airline’s sustainability strategy. At the same time, it brings substantial improvements to the operation, providing a more comfortable environment on board and, consequently, more comfortable flights for our passengers”.
Similar to the initial A320neo unit, operational since January last year, this second aircraft also features a 168-seat setup. Azores Airlines’ new A320neo incorporates the latest-generation engines (High-Bypass) and advanced aerodynamic technology (Airbus Sharklet™ wings), resulting in a remarkable 20% reduction in fuel consumption, decreased gas and noise emissions, reduced operational costs, and increased cargo capacity compared to earlier aircraft models.
Internally, the airline has maintained a consistent ambiance by sticking to the signature blue hues associated with the SATA Azores Airlines brand. The cabin has been tailored with specific seat designs and embellishments, along with partition walls delineating various sections. A carefully crafted lighting scheme alternating between shades of blue and green complements the natural sounds inspired by the Azorean environment, creating a welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of the tranquil Azores Archipelago, the primary focal point of SATA Group’s aviation services.
