A Jharkhandi woman will break her vow of silence on the day of the Ram Temple’s inauguration in Ayodhya, India, after remaining silent since 1992.

The 85-year-old Saraswati Devi will see her dream come true on January 22, 2024.

She will finally break her three-decade-long vow of silence.

Saraswati Devi, popularly referred to as “Mauni Mata” (the Mother of Silence), used sign language to converse with her family. However, when she had to communicate complicated sentences, she would write them down.

In 2020, she violated her vow and began speaking for an hour at noon every day. The day Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the temple’s foundation stone, she totally stopped talking.

Devi, who is married to Devkinandan Agarwal and has eight children, four of whom are daughters, gave her life to Lord Ram in 1986, dedicating the majority of her time to pilgrimages. family members said. Devi is currently living with her second-eldest son, Nand Lal Agarwal, an official with Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), an arm of Coal India, at Dhaiya in Dhanbad.

When the Babri Masjid was demolished, Saraswati Devi visited Ayodhya and took a vow of silence until Ram Mandir was erected.

She used to be silent for twenty-three hours a day, only taking a break every hour at midday. She used a pen and paper to communicate with everyone for the remainder of that period.

Back in the year 2021, Devi spent seven months performing penance at Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh. This location is believed to have been the place where Lord Rama spent his final years of exile. In addition to this, she went on national pilgrimages as well.

Her daughter-in-law Innu Agarwal, told the media that Saraswati Devi begins her day at four in the morning and spends almost seven hours doing meditation. After that, she goes on to study religious texts like the Bhagavad Gita and the Ramayana. She is an ardent follower of Lord Rama and follows a fully vegetarian diet. This comprises pulses, rice, roti, and glasses of milk in the morning and evening.
