The Territory Labor Government is improving Aboriginal Tourism, to surge visitor numbers and nurture the sector.
Today, the round 6 of the Aboriginal Tourism Grant Program opens with $500,000 in grants offered to the Aboriginal owned businesses to advance or improve Aboriginal cultural tourism experiences.
Between $30,000 and $100,000, the grants are offered and will be used to promote or develop new infrastructure or products like on country housing facility or cultural evening experiences.
The grant program till date has helped 45 businesses related to aboriginal tourism with grants totaling to more than $1.74 million.
This effort is set to shape the Aboriginal tourism industry of the territory by helping new bookable tourism products and experiences.
Angkerle Aboriginal Corporation in 2022 received a grant for their Angkerle Atwatye Cultural Centre. It is situated in the West MacDonnell Ranges.
The grant helped the cultural center, which was just a one-room facility, and will have to be improved to a completely surrounded and air-conditioned space, fit for housing groups of up to 50 guests.
The upgrade has suggestively enhanced the visitor experience, offering a comfortable and appealing environment to carry on cultural presentations.
The mission of the Northern Territory Aboriginal Tourism Strategy 2020-2030 is to grow a sustainable Aboriginal tourism sector.
