ACI World is celebrating the 200th review of the Airport Excellence (APEX) program at Bahrain International Airport, marking a significant achievement in its mission to elevate global aviation standards.
Since its initiation in 2011, the ACI World APEX program has conducted thorough onsite airport reviews, led by industry experts, to enhance airport operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and improve aviation standards worldwide. APEX adheres to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, international regulations, and ACI best practices, offering evaluations in key areas such as security, cybersecurity, safety, and the environment.
During the five-day review held from November 26 to 30, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) and ACI World formalized their commitment to excellence in airport operations by signing a Declaration of Commitment and Collaboration.
Luis Felipe de Oliveira, Director General of ACI World, expressed excitement about reaching this milestone and commemorating it at Bahrain International Airport, emphasizing the program’s impact on global aviation standards.
“The 200th APEX review underscores the program’s significance, success, and influence in enhancing aviation standards globally,” said de Oliveira. “We are privileged to celebrate this accomplishment at Bahrain International Airport, a distinguished airport renowned for its dedication to excellence in all facets of airport operations. Our flagship program will undoubtedly continue to play a crucial role in fostering excellence in airport security, cybersecurity, safety, and sustainability worldwide. We extend our gratitude to every APEX Assessor—aviation professionals contributing to reviews, mentoring team members, and sharing knowledge and industry best practices to enhance the sector.”
Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, CEO of Bahrain Airport Company, expressed delight in continuing the collaboration with ACI World through the APEX program. He highlighted the program’s role in providing invaluable insights and recommendations to enhance security, cybersecurity, safety, and environmental practices.
“Bahrain Airport Company partnered with ACI World for an APEX review in 2017 to enhance our Aerodrome Safety and Airside operations practices,” stated Al Binfalah. “Today, this collaboration aims to optimize our operations and incorporate International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and recommended practices, driving continuous improvement in our overall airport performance. In October 2023, ACI World introduced the latest addition to the program—APEX in Cybersecurity. This review serves as a foundational assessment of cybersecurity practices at airports, designed to assist airports in conducting a comprehensive evaluation of their cybersecurity landscape.
