Aer Lingus has officially launched its first-ever direct flight between Dublin Airport (DUB) and Tromsø Airport (TOS), providing travelers with a new seasonal winter route to experience one of nature’s most stunning phenomena—the Northern Lights. This new service, which began recently, is designed to cater to both seasoned aurora chasers and first-time visitors who are eager to see the spectacular auroras in northern Norway. With twice-weekly flights running until March 25, 2026, this route promises to offer both adventure and convenience for travelers.
The new service between Dublin and Tromsø operates twice a week, departing on Wednesdays and Sundays, which are perfect for travelers looking for a quick winter getaway. The first flight of the week, EI628, leaves Dublin at approximately 11:45 AM local time and arrives in Tromsø after a flight duration of about 3 hours and 45 minutes. The return flight, EI629, takes off from Tromsø at 12:35 PM and lands back in Dublin by early afternoon, allowing for a smooth and quick return journey. The non-stop flight covers a distance of approximately 1,382 miles (2,225 km), providing a fast and efficient way to reach Tromsø’s arctic beauty.
Tromsø, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Arctic,” is an ideal destination for those looking to witness the Northern Lights, one of the most awe-inspiring natural displays in the world. Located about 350 km above the Arctic Circle, Tromsø offers some of the best conditions for aurora sightings, particularly between late September and early April, when the nights are longest. December, with up to 20 hours of darkness, is the perfect time to catch the auroras in full swing.
In addition to the Northern Lights, Tromsø offers a variety of unique Arctic experiences. Visitors can enjoy thrilling activities like snowmobiling, dog sledding, and boat tours to see the Northern Lights from different perspectives. For those interested in wildlife, the Polar Park wildlife reserve provides an up-close encounter with Arctic animals, including wolves, lynx, and bears. The relatively mild Gulf Stream-influenced climate of Tromsø—averaging highs of -1°C (30°F) in December—makes it an accessible choice compared to other more remote fjord areas.
Aer Lingus will operate this route using its Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, which are designed to provide maximum comfort during the flight. The aircraft will offer seating for up to 180 passengers in Economy and Premium seating options. The choice of aircraft ensures both efficiency and comfort for passengers looking to enjoy their flight to Tromsø. Travelers will have access to a range of in-flight amenities to enhance their experience as they make their way to one of the world’s most sought-after destinations for aurora viewing.
For those eager to book their tickets, one-way fares for the new route start from just €99, including taxes and charges, making this an affordable option for those seeking an Arctic adventure. Round-trip fares are available starting at around €200. Due to the popularity of Tromsø as a Northern Lights destination, availability is expected to be limited during the peak season, especially in December, so early booking is highly recommended.

Travelers can secure their tickets through the Aer Lingus website or mobile app, and should keep an eye out for possible bundle deals that include accommodations or car rentals in Tromsø. While there are no specific promotions noted beyond the introductory fares, it’s always worth checking for special offers or deals that could enhance the travel experience.
The flight schedule is designed to run through the winter season, ending on March 25, 2026. Aer Lingus will operate the flight on Wednesdays and Sundays, giving passengers flexibility for a weekend getaway or a longer holiday in Tromsø. Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, as Tromsø is a popular destination for winter tourists eager to witness the Northern Lights and enjoy Arctic adventures.
Planning your trip to Tromsø doesn’t just end with booking the flight. To increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights, consider downloading apps like Aurora Forecast, which can help track solar activity and provide a forecast for aurora visibility based on weather and solar patterns. The best viewing opportunities occur during clear skies and high solar activity, so it’s important to stay informed.
Beyond the Northern Lights, Tromsø offers several exciting activities, from guided tours of the Polar Park wildlife reserve to snowshoeing and ice fishing. For the more adventurous, dog sledding and snowmobiling are available, giving visitors a thrilling way to experience the Arctic wilderness.
