Kochi – The Rising Global Birdwatching Hub

Kochi has emerged as a top destination, with international interest soaring by 2.6 times compared to last year. The city’s proximity to bird sanctuaries such as Thattekad and Kumarakom makes it an ideal spot for nature lovers. These areas offer a rich variety of species like Siberian cranes, Brahminy kites, and Marsh Harriers, showcasing Kerala’s biodiversity. Agoda search trends indicate that travellers from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore are particularly drawn to Kochi during the peak birdwatching season. Among these, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan have seen the most significant growth in searches — increasing by 66%, 25%, and 18% respectively — highlighting Southeast Asia’s growing interest in India’s wildlife destinations.

Cuttack – Gateway to Asia’s Largest Brackish Bird Sanctuary

Cuttack has experienced a 33% boost in domestic search interest, driven by the spotlight on Chilika Lake, Asia’s largest brackish water bird sanctuary. From September onwards, the lake becomes a haven for migratory birds, including flamingos, herons, and painted storks, which travel thousands of miles from Central Asia and Siberia. The scenic boat rides and local conservation efforts have made this region a model for sustainable wetland tourism, attracting both nature enthusiasts and eco-conscious travellers.

The park attracts visitors from all over the world to witness Siberian Cranes, Bar-headed Geese, Painted Storks, and other fascinating species in their natural habitat. Alwar’s convenient location and well-maintained infrastructure make it one of the best places for beginners to explore birding in India.

Coimbatore – A Birdwatcher’s Paradise Amidst India’s Living Forests

Coimbatore and the Nilgiri Biosphere offer a different birdwatching experience, with mist-covered hills and lush forests drawing birding enthusiasts and trekkers alike. Known for endemic species like the Nilgiri flycatcher and black-and-orange flycatcher, this region serves as an important stopover for forest-dwelling birds during migration. Agoda’s data shows a 6% rise in domestic searches for Coimbatore, reflecting the growing demand for combining birdwatching with nature retreats and trails in the Western Ghats.
