In a remarkable demonstration of its unwavering commitment to gender equality, the Air India group has unveiled a series of initiatives in celebration of International Women’s Day. Highlighting the day’s significance, Air India operated a total of 15 flights with all-women crews across both domestic and international sectors, showcasing the airline’s progressive stance on female representation within the aviation industry.

Notably, Air India boasts over 15% of its cockpit crew as women, positioning it as one of the airlines with the highest number of female pilots globally. This is a testament to the organization’s dedication to breaking gender barriers and promoting inclusivity at every level. Furthermore, women constitute a significant 51% of Air India’s workforce, indicating a gender-balanced work environment that champions equal opportunities.

Since its return to the Tata group two years ago, Air India has witnessed a considerable increase in the number of women employees across various departments, signifying the group’s efforts to foster a diverse and inclusive workspace. Similarly, Air India Express reports that women pilots make up over 13% of its total, with nearly half of its workforce being women. These figures not only reflect the airline’s commitment to gender parity but also highlight the evolving dynamics within the aviation sector.

To further commemorate International Women’s Day, the Air India group has orchestrated week-long programs aimed at empowering its female employees. These initiatives include webinars and live sessions featuring experts and role models from diverse fields, designed to inspire women across the network and promote broader awareness and motivation.

In a special nod to its customers, Air India Express is extending complimentary seat selection and priority boarding services to all women passengers for the day, accessible via its mobile app and website. Additionally, the Air India Loyalty Programme, Flying Returns, is offering its female members an exclusive, limited-time opportunity to fast-track their way to the Silver Edge Club. This privilege includes enticing benefits such as 15% additional reward points, complimentary upgrades, and priority check-in services, further enhancing the travel experience for women.

This year’s theme for Women’s Day, ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ underscores the critical role of gender equality and the well-being of women in all life aspects. This aligns perfectly with the Tata group and Air India’s ethos, which firmly believes in the power of diversity and inclusion to spur innovation and growth. The operations of flights to five destinations, including three international flights by Air India and additional routes by Air India Express, symbolize the airline’s commitment to celebrating and uplifting women, not just on International Women’s Day, but every day.
