AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) is excited to announce that flights between Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane will recommence on 2 July 2024. This move reestablishes AirAsia Malaysia as the sole carrier providing direct flights to all 10 ASEAN nations, a significant achievement.

With a network spanning across a region inhabited by approximately 800 million people, AirAsia significantly enhances connectivity while promoting economic growth and cultural exchanges through tourism. As ASEAN’s largest budget carrier by passenger numbers, AirAsia plays an essential role in the economic prosperity of the area, contributing to job creation, increased tourist expenditures, and advantages to various other industries.

The reintroduction of bi-weekly flights to Vientiane, the enchanting capital of Laos, aims to boost regional connectivity and economic development, aligning with the Lao government’s goal of attracting 2.7 million international tourists in 2024. In 2019, AirAsia was the leading airline on the Kuala Lumpur-Vientiane route, serving nearly 50,000 passengers and reinforcing its status as the premier choice for travelers.

Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, Bo Lingam said: “Asean is where our brand and footprint is the strongest and we are proud to be a truly Asean airline with the resumption of this route. Our commitment to Asean is steadfast and we have built an Asean airline in five countries, connecting 130 destinations across the region and beyond.

“We have not only made travel accessible for millions in Asean but also contributed significantly to the economies of these nations. AirAsia remains dedicated to serving the people in the region and the completion of our network to all 10 Asean countries is a significant step towards growing the region while making the world smaller.

“As an Asean airline, we will continue to champion its integration through the continued support of the ASEAN Open Skies Policy to increase regional and domestic connectivity and enhance Asean trade opportunities through the liberalisation of air travel under the single, unified air transport market.”

In light of the recent announcement, flight bookings from Kuala Lumpur to Vientiane and vice versa are now open, with special introductory fares starting from just RM99 for a one-way trip from Kuala Lumpur and from USD 39 from Vientiane, inclusive of all charges*. These promotional rates are available for flights scheduled between 2 July 2024 and 30 November 2024. Travelers can secure their bookings through airasia.com or the AirAsia MOVE platform (previously known as the airasia Superapp), until 7 April 2024.

Positioned elegantly along the Mekong River, Vientiane, the Laotian capital, is a beacon for those seeking to immerse themselves in a place where tradition and modernity converge. The city’s landscape is adorned with remnants of French colonialism, Buddhist temples, and vibrant local traditions, making it a cultural tapestry that beckons explorers. Among its notable attractions is Wat Si Saket, famed for its distinctive architecture, and Pha That Luang, a revered gold-covered stupa that stands as Laos’ premier national monument. The Morning Market offers a lively shopping experience, with stalls laden with traditional crafts, luxurious silk, and fresh local produce. The Patuxai Victory Monument also demands a visit, standing as a testament to the spirit and independence of the Laotian people.
