AirAsia has unveiled a new addition to its expanding network in India, introducing a fresh route connecting Kuala Lumpur to Ahmedabad, India’s inaugural UNESCO World Heritage City.

Scheduled to commence operations on May 1, 2024, this latest route underscores AirAsia’s rapidly growing connectivity to India, marking the airline’s eleventh route to the country and its third new route in 2024 alone. Notably, this launch signifies AirAsia’s inaugural foray into the state of Gujarat from Malaysia, solidifying its presence in South Asia.

Ahmedabad, also known as Amdavad, is a sprawling city renowned for housing one of India’s largest cotton textile hubs, serene lakes, quaint temples, and centuries-old mosques. History enthusiasts are drawn to the city’s ancient architecture dating back to the 15th century under the rule of Sultan Ahmad Shah. Ahmedabad, boasting vibrant street food and being a hub for sought-after jewelry markets, is a magnet for tourists.

To celebrate this significant milestone, AirAsia is offering a special promotional fare. Travel enthusiasts can fly from Kuala Lumpur for only RM209* and from Ahmedabad to Kuala Lumpur for just INR7,999*, by booking between now and January 28, 2024, for travel between May 1, 2024, and March 19, 2025, through the airasia Superapp or the website.

Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, Bo Lingam said: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce yet another venture of AirAsia into Incredible India to the beautiful Ahmedabad  ‒ with many more to follow suit ‒ as we continue to celebrate the commendable initiative by the Malaysian government for the visa-free entry into Malaysia for Indian nationals. A city that is steeped in deeply-rooted traditions and heritage, Ahmedabad has something for everyone and I’m certain this route will be well received by travellers who are looking to sightsee its magnificent architecture or simply immerse themselves in the rich, local culture.

Reflecting on AirAsia’s vision since its first flight to India in 2008, Lingam reiterated the commitment to enhancing affordable connectivity between Malaysia and India. With untapped tourism potential in both countries, AirAsia aims to continue broadening its network, facilitating affordable travel to various unexplored gems of India.

AirAsia presently operates a comprehensive network of routes from Kuala Lumpur to various Indian cities, including Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, New Delhi, and Amritsar. The airline is set to commence flights to Thiruvananthapuram in February 2024, further expanding its direct routes to the southern state of Kerala. Additionally, affordable and accessible Fly-Thru options are available for guests traveling from India to Malaysia, utilizing Kuala Lumpur as a connecting hub to AirAsia’s extensive network of over 130 destinations in 22 countries.
