Today marks the 20th anniversary of AirAsia operations at Changi Airport, where it stands as the largest foreign airline group in Singapore. The airline boasts a significant share of the market, with over 12.5% of passengers traveling to or from Singapore flying with AirAsia.

Over the last two decades, AirAsia has been instrumental in promoting trade, establishing business connections, and stimulating the tourism sector between Singapore and various Asean nations. The airline has been a trailblazer in opening up new routes, such as to Yogyakarta, thereby enhancing accessibility and fostering economic ties. In the recent six years alone, AirAsia has transported more than 16 million passengers to and from Singapore, a figure that continues to rise.

Logan Velaitham, CEO of AirAsia Singapore said: “We are proud to celebrate two decades of operational excellence in Singapore. The Lion City is one of the most vital destinations that we consider as a virtual hub, contributing to our passenger load. In fact, the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route has emerged as the world’s busiest international flight path, boasting 4.9 million seats throughout the year. Alongsides Malaysia, Thailand serves as another prominent destination accessible from Singapore, witnessing remarkable growth from 14 weekly flights to Bangkok in 2004 to 28 weekly flights to date. Currently, we operate 12 direct routes from Singapore with a total number of 285 flights weekly.

“In the near future, we eagerly anticipate expansion to fly more guests to and from Singapore, to further enhance the potential tourism opportunities across the region. Just as we were honoured as  the Top Airline by Absolute Passenger Growth (Southeast Asia) at Singapore’s Changi Airline Awards 2019, we remain optimistic about the continuous increase in the total number of passengers we serve through Changi Airport. With this, we would also like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the Changi Airport Group and Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore for their steadfast support in our growth journey in Singapore. We also extend our appreciation to all our partners, including SATS for their trust in our endeavours.”

In celebration of a landmark achievement, AirAsia is thrilled to announce a special FREE SEATS* promotion, inviting travelers to fly from Singapore to a host of destinations including Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Hat Yai, Yogyakarta, and beyond with zero base fares. Furthermore, for those looking to venture further, AirAsia offers all-in** one-way low fares starting from SGD148 for medium-haul trips through the Fly-Thru service to places like Tiruchirappalli, Maldives, Jaipur, Chiang Mai, Sydney, Tokyo, and more. This enticing offer is open for bookings from 19 February 2024 until 25 February 2024, for journeys scheduled between 1 September 2024 and 18 June 2025.

Additionally, travelers can take advantage of a 20% discount on Fast Pass* purchases, enabling them to bypass the lengthy immigration lines at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) and enjoy an additional 7kg of carry-on luggage allowance. Those wishing to increase their carry-on capacity can also benefit from a 20% discount on Xtra Carry-On** when making their initial flight reservation.

Marking its prominence as the leading low-cost airline operating out of Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4 (T4), AirAsia’s 20th anniversary was commemorated with a special event hosted by Changi Airport Group (CAG) at T4 today.
