AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL) is thrilled to announce a significant achievement as it solidifies its status as the premier low-cost carrier globally by introducing its fifth airline, AirAsia Cambodia (flight code KT), scheduled for its inaugural flight on May 2, 2024.

This significant development marks a key period in the recovery of the aviation sector, which is bouncing back from the most severe crisis it has ever encountered. By expanding into Cambodia, AirAsia demonstrates its tenacity and commitment to growth, navigating through the industry’s considerable obstacles. The operations will commence from Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH), starting with two Airbus A320 aircraft.

Ticket sales have commenced for three domestic services from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, with ambitions to expand the route network in the future.

Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, Chairman of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL), expressed his enthusiasm for the venture and said: “The launch of AirAsia Cambodia marks another momentous occasion for AirAsia in providing low cost and high value travel for the people of Asean to connect with friends and family and explore the region and beyond. After the most challenging period, the new airline is a significant milestone in our incredible journey of expansion and recovery from the turbulence posed by the pandemic. With its aviation sector in its infancy, Cambodia and its 17 million population, offers a wealth of opportunities from cultural, historical and natural experiences, and we are proud to be able to connect travellers from all over the world to this remarkable country.”

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL) said: “Our founders Datuk Kamarudin Meranun and Tony Fernandes have always had a vision to make Asean a smaller place and it gives us great privilege to continue that legacy.

“AirAsia has built a significant presence in Cambodia over the years and recognizes the vast, untapped potential within the region. This includes creating opportunities for the development of hundreds of skilled professionals in aviation, such as pilots and engineers, replicating our successful models in Malaysia, Thailand, and other operational regions. The initiation of AirAsia Cambodia reinforces our objective to dominate the Asean region for affordable travel, leveraging our strong brand and presence. Historically, we have operated 6 routes into Cambodia across our Group, transporting 1.3 million passengers into the country.

Our vision remains to establish an unparalleled network in our primary markets, offering unmatched connectivity and flight frequencies. Starting with just two aircraft, our goal is to expand AirAsia Cambodia’s fleet to 60 aircraft within the next five years.

The forthcoming consolidation of all AirAsia airlines into a single publicly traded entity, including our medium-haul affiliate AirAsia X, will unite seven airlines. This will enhance connectivity to over 130 destinations, revolutionizing both short and long-haul air travel throughout Asean and beyond.”

The venture into Cambodia underscores AirAsia’s profound insight into the Asean market and its steadfast dedication to delivering outstanding value and service across the region. With a formidable brand and devoted customer base, AirAsia is set to significantly influence Cambodia’s aviation industry, backed by an order of over 300 new aircraft across the Group.
