AirBaltic and Ukrainian Officials Explore Opportunities for Infrastructure Development

airBaltic, the national airline of Latvia, made an announcement on March 25th regarding a visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, led by its Chief Executive Officer and President, Martin Gauss. The visit, conducted in compliance with stringent safety and planning protocols, included a significant meeting with Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Infrastructure, as well as Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, Chief Executive Officer of Boryspil International Airport.

During the meeting, M. Gauss reaffirmed airBaltic’s commitment to resuming flights to and from Kyiv, Lviv, and gradually Odesa, upon cessation of the conflict and once the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) deems Ukrainian airspace safe again.

The airBaltic delegation reached Ukraine by flying from Riga to Warsaw, followed by a train journey to Kyiv. Kristaps Purmalis, the Second Secretary for Economic Affairs of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine, accompanied the delegation.

Throughout the visit, discussions centered on assessing Boryspil Airport’s infrastructure, equipment, and operational readiness for the resumption of flights post-conflict. Future cooperation possibilities, security measures, and airBaltic’s role in supporting the restoration of Ukrainian aviation were also deliberated.

priority, airBaltic is committed to being among the first to resume flights with our neighboring country,
ensuring connectivity and supporting Ukraine’s independence. Слава Україні (Glory to Ukraine)!”

Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, CEO of Boryspil Airport: “An enormous part of the work we do every day, is
cooperation with our key partners – airlines that flew to us historically and which are looking to restart
flights in the future. The visit to our airport by the top management of airBaltic, the Latvian national airline,
is an essential phase in the implementation of the process of future flight resumption, along with building a
reliable architecture for flight safety and passenger security, maintaining airport infrastructure and retention
of highly qualified personnel, and maintaining the airport’s certified activities.”

Following the reopening of Ukraine’s airspace, airBaltic eagerly anticipates resuming flights to and from the country. The airline’s plans include initiating daily flights from Kyiv, Lviv, and gradually Odesa, facilitating connections between these cities and the Baltic capitals, as well as major European cities via Riga.

airBaltic currently operates over 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, and seasonally from Gran Canaria. These routes provide extensive connectivity to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region within the airline’s route network.
