Riga, Latvia – December 14, 2023: airBaltic, the Latvian airline, is marking its seven-year anniversary of Airbus A220-300 operations, which began with the inaugural commercial flight from Riga to Amsterdam on December 14, 2016.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, expressed the significance of the Airbus A220-300, stating, ‘The Airbus A220-300 has transformed our airline, becoming a core asset and enabling us to operate one of the most efficient and eco-friendly fleets in the industry. It has allowed us to expand our reach to diverse destinations like Marrakesh, Agadir, Dubai, and Gran Canaria. We are also proud to welcome our 46th A220-300 this month and are aiming for 50 aircraft by 2024.’

airBaltic has further solidified its commitment to the Airbus A220-300 by announcing a firm purchase agreement for 30 additional aircraft, with purchase rights for 20 more, making it Europe’s largest A220-300 operator.

Since its introduction, airBaltic’s Airbus A220-300s have served over 13,441,000 passengers, completed 150,000 flights, and flown 328,000 block hours. Starting from May 2020, airBaltic has exclusively operated Airbus A220-300 aircraft, streamlining operations for increased efficiency.

The Airbus A220-300 has surpassed expectations, offering superior performance, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort. With wider seats, larger windows, and reduced noise levels, it delivers an exceptional flying experience. It’s also the most environmentally friendly commercial aircraft globally, reducing CO2 and NOX emissions by 25% and 50%, respectively, compared to previous-generation aircraft and industry standards.”
