Airbus and TotalEnergies join forces to advance Sustainable Aviation Fuels

Airbus and TotalEnergies forge strategic alliance to drive aviation decarbonization with sustainable fuels. The partnership targets net carbon-neutral aviation by 2050, focusing on reducing CO2 emissions with Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). SAF from TotalEnergies can slash CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional fuels. Key elements include TotalEnergies supplying over half of Airbus’ European SAF needs and a joint research effort to develop 100% sustainable fuels for current and future aircraft designs. The collaboration builds on TotalEnergies’ history of supplying SAF for Airbus aircraft deliveries in Toulouse since 2016, and their partnership has already powered milestone SAF flights, including the first long-haul flight with French-produced SAF in May 2021, a H225 helicopter flight in November 2021, and an A321neo flight in March 2023.
