On January 24, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted approval for a comprehensive inspection and maintenance protocol for the 737-9 MAX aircraft. Alaska Airlines is fully prepared to execute these meticulous examinations on our fleet.

Every aircraft will only be reintegrated into service upon the successful completion of stringent inspections, ensuring compliance with FAA standards for airworthiness. With a total of 65 737-9 MAX aircraft in our fleet, the anticipated duration for each inspection is estimated to be up to 12 hours.

Post the thorough assessments conducted by our proficient Alaska Maintenance technicians, the initial planes are anticipated to recommence scheduled commercial operations on January 26, Friday.

In response to the FAA’s request, our Maintenance technicians conducted preliminary inspections on 20 of our 737-9 MAX aircraft two weeks ago. The collected data was submitted to the FAA for in-depth analysis, leading to the issuance of final directives for comprehensive inspections, specifically focusing on the door plug of each 737-9 MAX aircraft. We are now prepared to implement these conclusive orders.

The first 737-9 MAX is set to resume flights on January 26, Friday, with subsequent aircraft gradually returning to service each day as inspections are concluded and airworthiness is affirmed. It is anticipated that all inspections for our entire 737-9 MAX fleet will be finalized within the upcoming week.

We express our sincere gratitude for the FAA’s unwavering commitment to safety, ensuring the secure return of the 737-9 MAX to the skies.
