Albania is poised to become the focal point of European tourism by hosting the World Tourism Organization’s Commission for Europe meeting for the first time, from April 7th to 9th.

The capital city of Tirana will be the venue for the 70th session of the UNWTO Commission for Europe, where Tourism Ministers and top officials from 40 European countries are expected to gather. The decision to hold this event in Albania was formalized through a contract signed between Albania’s Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, and UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, at the ITB Berlin International Tourism Fair in March 2024. An Investment Forum will also run concurrently with the meeting.

This prominent event highlights Albania’s growing stature in the global tourism sector, marked notably by its designation as a “Place of Honor” at the esteemed ITB Berlin International Tourism Fair in 2025. Albania’s acclaim in the tourism sector was further enhanced when it led the European continent in the World Tourism Organization’s tourist arrival rankings for 2023, with the nation greeting more than 10 million international visitors that year, setting a new benchmark. Preliminary figures from the Albanian Ministry of Tourism and Environment for the first two months of 2024 show the country welcomed around 1 million overseas guests, reaffirming its status as a leading travel destination in Europe.
