The tourism industry of Alberta is quite delighted to get back its lost glory once again by welcoming international travelers.

To all the vaccinated travelers, Canada has finally opened its borders on Tuesday.

Darren Reeder with the Tourism Industry Association of Alberta says that foreign travelers contribute more cash to the country in terms of revenue on average than domestic travelers.

To quote Reeder, “We’re very grateful, and absolutely depend on the contributions of Albertans to our market. But we need about 10 [Albertans] to offset the loss of one international visitor in market during the summer.”

He has also observed that we all are almost nearing the end of the typical travel season, and border opening doesn’t fix things for businesses yet and the federal leaders should do something about it.

“We need ongoing liquidity supports. We need an absolute commitment to ensure the continuation of the Canada emergency wage subsidy program and the emergency rent program to at least next summer.”

Several companies will need the help to be able to make it to next summer, says Reeder.

Now, Alberta Parks is not hoping to experience big visitor increase to K-country as the border has reopened. However, Kananaskis Region Director Michel Roycroft says they’re interested to welcome fully vaccinated international tourists. “Kananaskis Country will see an increase, but historically Kananaskis Country has been the destination of Albertans primarily, with some neighboring jurisdictions like B.C., Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and places in the northern states,” he explained.
