Alentejo set to become ‘wine tourism destination of excellence’

The Alentejo Wine Route manages the advertising together with a numerous wine tourism units and support of the Regional Tourism Entity (ERT) of Alentejo and Ribatejo.

Francisco Mateus, the head of Portugal’s Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission (CVRA), explained that “the event is the most important one in the country regarding tourism.”

The Travel Market is to happen at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL) in Parque das Nações.

“It is a crucial opportunity where the promotion of wines and the practice of wine tourism meets professionals of the area and tourists and where it is possible to show the essence of the region and all the characteristics that make it one of the most desired touristic destinations in the country,” Mateus said.

As per the commission, Alentejo wines are sold to 115 foreign markets, and the quantity exported “tripled in the last ten years.”

Angola, Brazil, the US, Switzerland and Poland are part of the “top 5” «importing nations.
