The member company of ALLRAIL, European Sleeper, has inaugurated the pioneering train service connecting Prague to Brussels for passengers. This service is unique as it offers overnight travel options, including sleeper cars with both bunk beds and private rooms, as well as conventional seating arrangements. Importantly, this service is fully funded by commercial means and operates independently of Public Service Obligation (PSO) financial support from taxpayers.
The concept of the Single European Railway Area (SERA) holds the potential to significantly boost our collective wealth by paving the way for innovative cross-border train services.
This initiative illustrates the potential benefits of a unified market within Europe, specifically highlighting:
The emergence of entrepreneurs launching unprecedented cross-border train services
ALLRAIL’s Policy Officer Salim Benkirane is a strong proponent of European integration. He is on the first train from Prague, which will arrive in Brussels in just over one hour from now.
He says: “next month, it will be 20 years since the Czech Republic (CZ) entered the EU. Therefore, it is great to be on the first-ever direct rail service between CZ and Belgium, the country that hosts the EU Commission and the European Council.”
ALLRAIL is pushing for a quicker integration of the divided railway systems across EU Member States. The goal is to establish a true Single European Railway Area, facilitating the introduction of more novel cross-border train services akin to the offering by European Sleeper.
