SriLankan Airlines has announced the reestablishment of its codeshare with American Airlines. The agreement between the two oneworld airlines will allow for more ways to travel between Sri Lanka and the United States. While there will be no nonstop flights between the US and Sri Lanka, the codeshare opens expanded one-stop itineraries between the two countries and is a sign of the return of international air travel.
SriLankan Airlines has announced that its codeshare agreement with American Airlines is back. The partnership will cover eight routes between Europe and the US. The airline’s “UL” code will be found on the following American Airlines routes: Miami (MIA) to London (LHR), Miami (MIA) to Paris (CDG), New York (JFK) to London (LHR), New York (JFK) to Paris (CDG), Dallas (DFW) to Paris (CDG), Dallas (DFW) to Frankfurt (FRA), Los Angeles (LAX) to London (LHR), Chicago (ORD) to London (LHR)
These eight routes are all flown by American Airlines. Customers will be able to fly SriLankan from Colombo (CMB) to one of these European hubs before connecting to the United States. Neither SriLankan Airlines nor American flies nonstop between the US and Sri Lanka.
Richard Nuttall, Acting CEO of SriLankan Airlines, stated the following on the new codeshare agreement:
They are pleased to reinstate their codeshare partnership with American Airlines as SriLankan Airlines continues to expand its operations in Europe. This will introduce multiple new sectors and flight options to our growing network and allow our customers the option of convenient connections to several cities in North America via London, Paris or Frankfurt.
