American Airlines is preparing to elevate the premium travel experience at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport with a major renovation of its Admirals Club® lounge in Concourse D, a move that underscores the carrier’s long-term commitment to the nation’s capital and its growing base of frequent travelers. Designed to meet rising demand for comfortable, high-quality airport spaces, the upgraded lounge will significantly expand in size and capacity, offering guests a more spacious and refined environment before departure.
Once complete, the renovated Admirals Club® will extend across more than 10,000 square feet, increasing seating capacity by roughly 50 percent. The expansion is intended to ease congestion during peak travel periods while giving customers greater flexibility to work, dine, or unwind. With more room to spread out, travelers will find it easier to recharge devices, enjoy refreshments, or simply relax away from the bustle of the terminal.
The new design will pay tribute to Washington, D.C., drawing inspiration from the city’s architectural heritage and cultural identity. Subtle local design references will be woven throughout the space, creating a sense of place that connects travelers to the capital even before they leave the ground. One of the most striking features of the lounge will be its airside views, offering sightlines toward iconic landmarks such as the United States Capitol and the Washington Monument, adding a uniquely local dimension to the experience.
Reagan National Airport remains a critical hub for American Airlines, with the carrier operating more than 255 peak daily departures and linking Washington, D.C., to over 90 destinations across the United States. The investment in Concourse D reflects American’s broader strategy to support the region’s business, government, and leisure travelers while reinforcing its position as a leading airline at DCA.

This renovation will mark the second fully refurbished Admirals Club® lounge for American at Reagan National, strengthening a portfolio of premium spaces tailored to frequent flyers and business travelers. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026. During this period, the existing Concourse D lounge will temporarily close, but eligible customers will continue to have access to American’s Admirals Club® lounges in Concourses C and E, ensuring continuity of service throughout the project.
The DCA upgrade forms part of a wider wave of investments by American Airlines aimed at enhancing the end-to-end customer journey. Earlier this year, the airline announced plans for additional Admirals Club® locations as well as new Flagship® lounges in major hubs including Charlotte and Miami, signaling a renewed focus on premium ground experiences alongside onboard improvements.

Access to these upgraded lounge facilities is closely tied to American’s AAdvantage® loyalty ecosystem. Domestic travelers can enter Admirals Club® lounges through an annual membership, qualifying oneworld status, or by holding the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®. Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® cardholders also receive four Admirals Club® Globe™ passes, each valid for 24 hours, providing flexible access for occasional lounge visits. For customers without memberships or qualifying status, a One Day Pass remains available, offering 24-hour access for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage® miles.
Together, the Concourse D renovation and expanded access options highlight American Airlines’ intent to redefine the airport lounge experience at Reagan National. By combining thoughtful design, increased capacity, and flexible entry pathways, the airline is positioning its Admirals Club® network as a key differentiator for travelers seeking comfort, productivity, and a sense of place while passing through Washington, D.C.
