Allianz Partners USA has released its annual survey of the Top 10 Holiday Destinations, revealing that American are choosing New York City and Cancun, Mexico, as their preferred domestic and international holiday destinations.
After analyzing more than three million itineraries for roundtrip flights departing from U.S. airports between Saturday, December 16, and Friday, December 29, the travel insurance and assistance company discovered that 79% of the reviewed itineraries were for domestic travel, while 21% were for international trips.
New York City has claimed the top spot as the number one domestic destination for American travelers for the third consecutive year during this holiday season. It is followed by Orlando in second place, Las Vegas in third place, Los Angeles in fourth place, and Atlanta in fifth place. Notably, Las Vegas has risen four places compared to 2022, making it into the domestic top three for the first time since the survey’s inception in 2016.
For those planning international getaways, expect to encounter crowded airport gates at warm-weather destinations. Cancun has secured the top spot for the sixth consecutive year, with travelers seeking refuge from the cold to bask on Mexico’s sunny beaches. London, England, takes second place, followed by sunny destinations like San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico, in third place, Montego Bay, Jamaica, in fourth place, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in fifth place, all of which continue to attract U.S. travelers.
Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA, suggests that a thoughtful holiday gift for frequent travelers could be an annual travel insurance policy. He points out that whether individuals are traveling within the U.S., like Las Vegas enthusiasts, or heading to international beaches, a travel insurance policy can provide peace of mind in case of unexpected covered travel delays, trip cancellations, or interruptions. An annual policy offers protection throughout the year for prepaid, non-refundable expenses and is an excellent choice for avid travelers.
