Amid a surge in COVID cases driven by the highly transmissible JN.1 variant, many Asian countries are gradually reintroducing thermal scanners and face masks. If reports are to go by, over the past two weeks, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines have witnessed an increase in COVID cases, coinciding with the holiday season.

In India, Kerala reported the first case of the JN.1 variant, prompting concerns in neighboring states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. These states have heightened monitoring in bordering districts. Also, the Central Government has advised all states to implement more stringent public health measures to curb the transmission of COVID, particularly in states where a surge in infections, notably Kerala, has been reported.

These developments underscore the need for continued vigilance, adherence to preventive measures, and the importance of vaccination campaigns to curb the spread of the virus and its variants. Travelers and the general population are advised to stay informed about the evolving situation and follow health guidelines to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
