Amsterdam, Brussels and Milan are now linked by a new European Sleeper overnight train, offering travelers scenic views of the Alps, a range of comfortable sleeping options, and convenient morning arrivals that allow them to start their day refreshed. This service has been launched to meet growing demand for sustainable, long-distance travel across Europe, providing a practical alternative to short-haul flights while connecting major northern and southern cities efficiently.

European Sleeper is expanding its network with a new overnight train connecting Amsterdam and Brussels to Milan, launching on June 18. This marks the operator’s third long-distance night service and reflects growing demand for comfortable, eco-friendly alternatives to short-haul flights across Europe.

The service will operate three nights a week in both directions, with departures in the evening and arrivals in Milan the following morning. Southbound journeys begin with two separate portions departing from Amsterdam Central and Brussels South, which are combined in Cologne for the onward journey through Switzerland and northern Italy. Travelers can expect stops in Bern, Brig, Domodossola, and Stresa, providing a scenic passage through the Swiss and Italian Alps. Northbound trains follow the same route in reverse, separating after Cologne for their final legs back to Amsterdam and Brussels. Planners are considering adding a stop at Olten to improve connections to Zürich, while a stop at Basle has been ruled out. Discussions are also underway to secure access to Milan Central station.

Evening departures from Amsterdam and Brussels are scheduled for around 19.00 on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with arrival in Milan between 09.00 and 10.00. The return service from Milan will leave in the evening on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, reaching Amsterdam and Brussels the next morning. Passengers can choose from a variety of on-board accommodations, including standard seats, couchettes, and private sleeper compartments, ensuring options for different budgets and preferences. Ticket sales are expected to begin early next year.

The train will operate under the safety certification of a Netherlands-based private company for travel through Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, with operators for Switzerland and Italy still being confirmed to ensure smooth cross-border operations.

The Milan route is positioned as a key north–south corridor in Europe’s expanding night train network. It also links to services connecting London via Brussels, offering extended travel options for those traveling across multiple countries. This service complements other European Sleeper routes, including the Paris–Brussels–Berlin overnight train scheduled to launch in March, while plans for a Brussels–Barcelona night train have been delayed until 2027–28.

To support its growth, European Sleeper recently opened a fundraising round targeting €1.3 million, with another €1 million round planned for early January. The funds will be used to expand fleet capacity, upgrade passenger amenities, and strengthen partnerships with infrastructure managers across Europe. These investments aim to provide a high-quality alternative to air travel while promoting sustainable, long-distance rail journeys.
