  1. Eleanor Parker, a celebrated actress, officially named the California Zephyr in San Francisco on March 19, 1949.
  2. On March 20, 1949, the inaugural journey of the California Zephyr from Oakland to Chicago marked a new chapter in train travel.
  3. The breathtaking vistas along its route have consistently been the California Zephyr’s hallmark attraction.
  4. The train’s stunning views, some captured in the mentioned video, led to it being the pioneering transcontinental train to incorporate dome cars routinely.
  5. Each original car of the California Zephyr proudly bore a “Silver” prefix, setting a theme for its nomenclature.
    a. Baggage cars celebrated animal themes, such as the Silver Stag.
    b. Dome coaches drew inspiration from wild west motifs, epitomized by the Silver Lariat.
    c. Dining cars referenced their catering role with names like Silver Plate.
