The Angolan Embassy in Nigeria has announced plans to inaugurate a new visa application center in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, on Tuesday. This initiative aims to eliminate the necessity for individuals to travel to Abuja or Lagos to obtain their visas. The opening of the center coincides with the celebration of the 4th of April, known as the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation in Angola, signifying its importance.
Presently, Angola has visa centers in Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria. The embassy’s announcement detailed that the new center in Port Harcourt is part of the celebrations for the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation. This center, established in collaboration with Akwa Helmes International Limited (AHIL), will offer visa application services and aims to boost investment opportunities. It also seeks to support the oil and gas sectors while promoting tourism activities such as sun, sea, and adventure travel.
Additionally, the center will provide services related to hotel bookings, ticket sales, and air travel to destinations covered by Angola’s national carrier, TAAG. The inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, as a special guest of Ambassador José Bamóquina ZAU. The event is seen as a significant step towards fostering economic, cultural, and tourist relations between Angola and Nigeria.
Port Harcourt, situated in the heart of the Niger Delta in Rivers State, which is home to approximately 10 million people, plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. The region hosts major petroleum and petrochemical industries, two state-owned refineries, seaports, universities, and scientific and technological institutes. A significant number of businessmen and technicians employed in Angola’s oil and gas sector hail from this region. Moreover, there is a strong desire among local authorities to deepen academic collaborations through training programs and technical internships within the industry.
