Ankara hit by flash floods, atleast six injured

turkeyAccording to the provincial governor flooding in capital Ankara post afternoon rains has injured atleast six people.

 

 

Mustafa Tuna mentioned that six people has been injured , however their health condition is not serious. He further mentioned that a natural disaster like this did not happen before.

 

 

The flooding in Ankara’s Mamak district was due to heavy rainfall. It swept away cars and large trash cans along the streets. It was reported that shops and basement floors of building were left under water in the footage provided from the scene.

 

 

According to a local media Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım was briefed by the governor on the situation.

 

 

It was expected that the rain would last for three hours on Saturday afternoon but it came down in nine minutes. It damaged 160 cars and 25 businesses  according to the Turkish Social Security Minister Julide Sarieroglu. He further stated that the Government was working to assess and alleviate the damage.

 

 

A man was able to escape from being submerged by resorting to the top of a car caught in the flood. He was seen crouching on the bonnet and the vehicle was riding downstream.

 

 

 

A team of volunteers were cooking for people as mentioned by the Turkish Red Crescent, a humanitarian organization.
