Tourism having a power for good became the central theme with members of the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) taking part in the annual IMPACT Sustainable Tourism Conference in Victoria, British Columbia.

The focus of this internationally-informed, Canadian-focused event was to tutor, unite, entrust, and make a start toward promoting tourism as a financial and social energy for good. Keeping track of and evaluating success by means of environment, community, culture and economy (also recognized as planet, people and prosperity by the BC Ministry of Tourism, Art, Culture and Sport).

In a timeframe of around 2.5 days and more than 20 sessions, the meeting presented the sustainability challenges that are faced by the tourism industry around the world. Stirring examples were shared of companies that are working relentlessly toward regenerative tourism. These companies urged all tourism professionals to promise significant action for sustaining tourism with productive methods.

The COVID-19 pandemic and climate change have indeed given rise to global disruption, which is a matter of immense concern; however we are now in the middle of what is being known as the Great Restart, which is a chance to reconsider the ways in which we do business and rethink efforts to get ready for the future.

This requires important intentional change and the need to have as a feature sustainable and regenerative practices as a fundamental feature of business development and operations.
