Image generated with AiMitsui Ocean Cruises has unveiled a new 2027 festival and coastal voyage programme across Japan and South Korea for North American travellers, responding to rising demand for immersive Asia cruise experiences centred on seasonal festivals, cultural traditions and lesser-known coastal destinations. The new deployment aboard the Mitsui Ocean Fuji and Mitsui Ocean Sakura will include 27 sailings timed around cherry blossom season, snow festivals, summer fireworks events and scenic regional exploration.
The sailings, scheduled between February and September 2027, will range from five to 12 nights and place strong emphasis on Japan’s most celebrated times of year. Guests will be able to travel during cherry blossom season, winter snow festivals, summer fireworks events and autumn holiday periods while visiting both major cities and lesser-known coastal regions.
The cruise line’s latest deployment reflects the rising popularity of immersive Asia voyages that focus on regional identity, local traditions and scenic travel experiences rather than conventional large-port itineraries.
Unlike many international cruise operators that primarily concentrate on Japan’s biggest gateway ports, Mitsui Ocean Cruises is building itineraries around smaller destinations scattered across the country’s islands. The programme includes stops at ports rarely visited by mainstream cruise ships, giving travellers access to quieter cultural destinations and regional communities.

Among the lesser-known locations featured in the 2027 season are Nanao, Shodoshima, Tanegashima and Tottori. These areas are recognised for their coastal scenery, historic districts, traditional food culture and seasonal events that remain largely untouched by mass tourism.
The 2027 programme aboard Mitsui Ocean Fuji will feature several spring and autumn itineraries linked closely to Japan’s changing seasons.

One of the first featured voyages is the six-night “Spring Gardens of Japan & Korea” itinerary departing on April 5, 2027. The sailing travels from Kobe to Yokohama with scheduled visits to Busan, Hososhima and Shingu. Timed during spring bloom season, the route combines Japanese coastal destinations with South Korean cultural experiences.
Another major itinerary in the programme is the 12-night “Northern Japan in Bloom” cruise beginning April 18, 2027. Sailing roundtrip from Yokohama, the voyage will visit Sasebo, Busan, Tottori, Nanao, Ryotsu, Oga, Otaru and Hakodate. The route focuses on northern Japan during late spring when flowering landscapes and cooler weather attract domestic and international travellers.

The ship will also operate a 10-night “Golden Week” sailing from April 30 to May 10, 2027. The itinerary includes Tokachi, Esashi, Akita, Toyama Shinko and Sokcho during Japan’s annual Golden Week holiday season, one of the country’s busiest travel periods.
In September, Mitsui Ocean Fuji will continue its seasonal itineraries with the nine-night “Silver Week” voyage sailing between Tokyo and Yokohama. The cruise includes stops in Shodoshima, Shingu, Tomonoura and Saiki, destinations known for historic waterfronts, island scenery and preserved local traditions.
At the same time, Mitsui Ocean Sakura will begin its 2027 operations with itineraries built around Japan’s winter and summer celebrations.
The season opens with the six-night “Sapporo Snow Festival” voyage departing Yokohama on February 9, 2027. The roundtrip itinerary visits Tomakomai, Sendai and Oarai while giving guests access to Hokkaido’s internationally recognised snow festival season.

Spring operations aboard the vessel will include an eight-night “Golden Week” itinerary sailing from April 28 to May 6, 2027. Ports of call include Miyazaki, Tanegashima, Koshikijima, Aokata and Kure, highlighting southern Japan’s island regions and coastal landscapes.
Summer voyages aboard Mitsui Ocean Sakura will centre around Japan’s famous fireworks festivals and regional cultural celebrations. One of the key departures is the seven-night “Tohoku Festival & Tateyama Fireworks” sailing leaving Tokyo on August 2, 2027. The itinerary visits Akita, Aomori and Tateyama before returning to Yokohama, combining northern Japan’s summer festival atmosphere with seasonal fireworks events.
Another major summer itinerary is the nine-night “Shimonoseki Fireworks” cruise beginning August 9, 2027. The roundtrip voyage from Yokohama features calls to Jeju Island alongside Japanese ports including Shimonoseki, Komatsushima, Kiitanabe and Kumanooki.
To encourage advance reservations, Mitsui Ocean Cruises is also launching an early booking promotion for the season. Guests reserving eligible sailings before September 30, 2026, can receive onboard credit worth up to USD 1,000.
The expanded 2027 deployment highlights the growing international interest in Japan-focused cruise tourism. Travellers are increasingly looking for itineraries that combine cultural immersion, seasonal experiences and smaller regional destinations instead of traditional city-only cruise routes.
Mitsui Ocean Cruises has unveiled a new 2027 festival and coastal voyage programme across Japan and South Korea for North American travellers, featuring 27 sailings aboard the Mitsui Ocean Fuji and Mitsui Ocean Sakura. The itineraries are designed around cherry blossom season, snow festivals, summer fireworks events and lesser-known coastal destinations across East Asia.
With sailings tied to cherry blossom season, fireworks festivals, winter celebrations and island exploration, Mitsui Ocean Cruises is strengthening its position in the evolving Asia cruise market. The company’s strategy of combining luxury cruising with deeper regional access is expected to appeal strongly to travellers seeking a more authentic and destination-driven experience across Japan and nearby East Asian regions.
