Arkansas: McKee Properties revives mid-century gem by E. Fay Jones

McKee Properties LLC is excited to announce the completion of an exceptional project in Fayetteville – the careful restoration of a mid-century modern home designed by the renowned architect E.E. Fay Jones designed this for Richard and Alma Brothers in 1956.This project underlines McKee Properties’ dedication to conserving architectural heritage by rejuvenating this iconic building in Northwest Arkansas.

The Brothers Residence, now exquisitely restored, integrates seamlessly with its environment, combining old-time elegance with modern amenities. Its expansive glass walls offer sweeping views and flood the interior with light, enhancing the home’s classic mid-century modern aesthetic. This residence is distinguished in Jones’ portfolio for its unique integration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian design principles.

In restoring the house, McKee Properties has carefully preserved and refreshed the original features that epitomize Jones’ design philosophy. The home’s interior features an open, seamless floor plan that blends natural materials like wood and stone with contemporary finishes, bridging history and modernity.

David McKee of McKee Properties, a local architect who collaborated with Jones for 16 years until Jones’s retirement in 1997, played a pivotal role in this restoration. David McKee was also recently awarded the Fay Jones School of Architecture’s Fay Jones Legacy Medal in Architecture, recognizing his efforts to perpetuate the legacy of the school’s namesake and his contributions both in Arkansas and globally.

McKee led the restoration efforts, serving both as architect and general contractor. This involved replacing the roof for the first time in its 66-year existence, as well as overhauling the electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Significant landscaping work was also undertaken to enhance the property’s natural setting and safeguard the building against the elements.

The reveal of this beautifully restored mid-century modern gem in Fayetteville demonstrates McKee Properties LLC’s commitment to preserving architectural history.
