Northern has issued a notice to travellers to seek alternative transportation methods for the upcoming Saturday, 6th April, in anticipation of a strike by ASLEF (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen), the train drivers’ union in London. This industrial action will result in a complete halt of Northern’s services across its network, presenting a significant disruption to travel plans.
Moreover, Northern is urging its passengers to verify their travel plans not only for the strike day itself but also for the days surrounding the action, specifically Friday, 5th April, and Monday, 8th April, as services from other train operators are also expected to be affected.
Expressing regret over the strike’s occurrence, Northern’s Chief Operating Officer, Tricia Williams, voiced disappointment towards ASLEF’s decision to proceed with the strike. She called for collaboration between the union and the rail industry to seek a resolution to the ongoing disputes, aiming to minimize further inconvenience to the public.
Williams extended an apology on behalf of Northern to all affected customers, acknowledging the considerable disturbance and inconvenience this strike action will inevitably cause to their travel arrangements. This situation underscores the broader impact such industrial actions have on public transportation and the essential role of dialogue in resolving labor disputes within the global travel industry.
