The Small Tourist Bus Association, under KEVE’s authority, has underscored the importance of improving service quality within the tourism sector, especially concerning public transportation.
The Association is currently grappling with a critical shortage of professional bus drivers, a situation that demands immediate attention from both the government and Parliament to ensure the smooth functioning of the transportation sector.
A significant concern raised by the Association involves the long-standing issue of taxis and small tourist buses from the occupied territories operating freely for the past two decades.
This practice, the Association argues, not only undermines fair competition but has evolved into a broader issue, affecting routes across the entirety of Cyprus. Such operations are not limited to tourist transportation but extend to regular services in the free areas, posing a direct and substantial challenge to the Association’s members and the wider tourism industry.
In light of these challenges, the Association is calling on the government to implement effective measures to address these issues. The aim is to curb practices that lead to unfair competition and ensure a level playing field for all stakeholders involved in the tourism and transportation sectors.
This move is seen as essential for safeguarding the interests of the Association’s members and by extension, bolstering the tourism industry’s overall health and competitiveness.
