The Tourism Department of Ladakh, in regard to a recent development, has declared that now, international tourists can stay overnight at Hanle village. Hanle was off-limits to overseas tourists until recently. Only local tourists were permitted to visit Hanle, this high-altitude village, which is the home to the Hanle Observatory as well.

The Wildlife Department of the UT Administration of Ladakh, has notified Hanle village as a Dark Sky Reserve. Considering the fact that Dark Sky tourism has recently witnessed a good amount of growth, opening Hanle to all visitors, international and domestic is going to entice a lot of tourism to the region.

The above-mentioned growth and development have come after the proposal of the Tourism Department permitting night stay for overseas visitors at Hanle. With a mission to promote this village as one of the main astro tourism destinations in India and other countries, this was done. On September 14 th , 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs gave green signal to this proposal.

B both domestic and international tourists, from now onward can stay over at Hanley and witness the natural phenomena and the culture of the region. Besides the developments in terms of Dark Sky Reserve, the tourism department will also be opening Martsemik and Sko Valley in Ladakh.
