On Tuesday, leaders from the BJP party, the All India Majlis-e-Itthehadul Muslimeen or AIMIM and the ruling Shiv Sena insisted on making the use of attendance caps at monuments and tourist sites in the Aurangabad instead of closing them down in the middle of the rise in Covid-19 cases. Shiv Sena spokesperson Amabadas Danve, in a letter to Maharashtra Tourism Minister, Aaditya Thackeray, requested for attendance cap of 50 per cent at these sites rather than complete shutdown, while AIMIM Lok Sabha MP Imtiaz Jaleel and BJP MLA Atul Save spoke on similar lines.

Danve explained that in the last few months, the tourism sector was slowly looking up when the Omicron variant appeared and started placing obstacles. “We can put restrictions so that social distancing can be maintained. Many families in Aurangabad depend on tourism. If we can keep wine shops and hotels open, then there should be no problem letting people visit monuments,” Save told PTI.

Jaleel tweeted that shutting down monuments for tourists would impact tourism tremendously. Jaleel also asked that if marriages can be organized with attendance limits, why these sites can’t be kept open with similar restrictions.
