Aussie icons: Hoodoo Gurus, Jessica Mauboy & Jimmy Barnes at Great Southern Nights 2024

The highly anticipated initial lineup for the 2024 edition of the Great Southern Nights festival has been unveiled today, showcasing an impressive array of Australian talent. Renowned artists such as Hoodoo Gurus, Jessica Mauboy, Jimmy Barnes, and more are set to converge, injecting a surge of energy into New South Wales’ vibrant live music scene and nighttime economy.

Tickets are now available for Great Southern Nights, which is returning from March 8th to March 24th, 2024. This year’s event promises over 300 live music performances spread across 17 nights and spanning seven key music communities throughout NSW, including Sydney’s inner city, Western Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Northern Rivers, Tamworth, and Wagga Wagga.

The eclectic lineup of artists combined with the state’s top live music venues presents a fantastic opportunity for attendees to transform a concert into an unforgettable weekend in Greater Sydney and New South Wales. Exploring the state’s picturesque coastline, thriving regional towns, and stunning natural landscapes is all part of the experience.

John Graham, Minister for the Arts, Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy, and Minister for Jobs and Tourism, expressed, “Reviving Great Southern Nights is a testament to our commitment to support live music and a shift in focus from destination travel to experiential tourism, with a strong emphasis on forging a cultural identity for the state. This goes beyond just live performances; it’s a showcase of how our shared passion for live music can create rich cultural moments that resonate with both locals and visitors, resulting in unforgettable experiences.”

He continued, “We are crafting memorable experiences for those exploring Sydney and the wider New South Wales region, offering diverse entertainment options for those venturing out at night. We want them to savor our outstanding locally-sourced cuisine and beverages, witness live performances, immerse themselves in the heartbeats of our entertainment hubs, and explore our bars, galleries, and creative spaces.”

The 2024 Great Southern Nights artist roster revealed so far includes an impressive list of talents, such as 360, A.Girl, Alex Lahey, Anna Lunoe, Ball Park Music, BARKAA, Becca Hatch, Big Skeez, Bliss N Eso, Budjerah, Cub Sport, Dan Sultan, David Campbell, Drapht, Dune Rats, Elixir, Fanny Lumsden, Godlands, Gold Fang, Gordi, Gretta Ray, Havana Brown, Hermitude, Hoodoo Gurus, ILLY, James Blundell, James Reyne, Jawbreakers, Jessica Mauboy, Jesswar, Jimmy Barnes, JK-47, Jon Stevens, Kasey Chambers, Kate Ceberano, Kate Miller-Heidke, King Stingray, KYE, L-Fresh The Lion, Lydia Lunch and Joseph Keckler, Northlane, Pacific Avenue, Pania, Peter Garrett & The Alter Egos, Pop Crimes – The Songs Of Rowland S Howard, Raechel Whitchurch, Redhook, Ruby Fields, Sarah Blasko, Sneaky Sound System, Sophiya, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Buoys, The Church, The Cruel Sea, The Presets, The Primitives, The Vanns, The Whitlams Black Stump Band, Tigerlily, Vallis Alps, Vika and Linda, Xavier Rudd, YNG MARTYR, Yothu Yindi, and You Am I.

In excitement, Sneaky Sound System exclaimed, “Wagga Wagga, brace yourselves, as we’ll be hitting the road in March to bring the tunes and kick off the party for Great Southern Nights!”

Ball Park Music shared their enthusiasm, stating, “We’re incredibly thrilled to be part of the Great Southern Nights program once again. This time, we’ll be heading to Northern NSW to perform our very first show in Brunswick Heads. Some of us grew up in this area, so it feels truly special to return and perform here. We’ll also have our dear friends from Bean Magazine along for the ride. It’s going to be an unforgettable gig.”

Great Southern Nights is an initiative by the NSW Government, delivered in partnership with the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.
