Perth Airport,

Australia’s Perth Airport is solidifying its position as a key international hub with the introduction of new routes to major global destinations, including Bali, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Doha, London, Paris, and Rome. These expanded services, led by prominent airline partners such as Qantas, Virgin Australia, Cathay Pacific, and TransNusa, highlight the airport’s growing importance in global air travel. This surge in connectivity is accompanied by an ambitious A$5 billion expansion plan aimed at enhancing infrastructure and capacity by 2031. With these new routes and ongoing development, Perth Airport is set to become a critical gateway connecting Australia to vital markets in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Perth Airport (PER) stands as a pivotal hub in Australia’s aviation network, serving as a significant gateway for both domestic and international travel. In 2024, the airport achieved a major milestone, handling 16.9 million passengers, a reflection of its growing prominence as a vital transport and travel hub. Connecting passengers to more than 90 destinations worldwide through over 30 airline partners, Perth Airport facilitates the movement of business, leisure, student, and event travelers, both from across Australia and globally.

Strategically located on Australia’s western coast, Perth Airport enjoys unparalleled operational and economic advantages. Its proximity to major international hubs in Asia, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Europe allows airlines to provide more efficient services by significantly reducing flight distances. The airport’s global reach is highlighted by its unique distinction as the only Australian airport offering non-stop flights to London and various destinations across continental Europe, making it an essential stop for international air travel.

Enhancing Regional Connectivity with New Partnerships

In March 2025, Perth Airport celebrated the arrival of TransNusa, marking its debut in the Australian aviation market with a new route to Bali. This addition will strengthen the airport’s connectivity to Asia, with plans for double-daily services starting by 18 July 2025. Furthermore, Cathay Pacific is expanding its Perth operations, introducing double daily flights to Hong Kong starting in October 2025. The return of China Southern Airlines to Perth in November, with flights resuming to Guangzhou, will further solidify connections to one of Western Australia’s major inbound markets.

Additionally, in June 2025, Virgin Australia, in partnership with Qatar Airways, launched its inaugural service connecting Perth to Doha, enhancing travel options between Perth and the Middle East. This new route will strengthen Perth’s ties with the Middle East and broaden the city’s access to international destinations across Europe, Africa, and beyond.

Perth as Australia’s Western Gateway

Qantas has consistently recognized the strategic importance of Perth Airport as Australia’s western gateway, offering non-stop flights to key global destinations such as London Heathrow (LHR), Paris, and Rome. The airline will also reintroduce flights to Johannesburg and Auckland from December 2025, enhancing Perth’s international connections to South Africa and New Zealand. These moves reflect Perth’s growing role in global aviation, with Qantas continuing to cement the airport’s reputation as a hub for long-haul international travel.

Jetstar, another key member of the Qantas Group, has further diversified Perth Airport’s international offerings by successfully launching direct flights to Singapore, Bangkok, and Phuket. These routes cater to both leisure and business travelers, reinforcing the airport’s status as an essential regional hub.

Expanding Capacity with a Multi-Billion Dollar Transformation

Looking ahead, Perth Airport is poised for a major transformation as part of its ambitious A\$5 billion (\$3.2 billion) development program. The comprehensive expansion plan, set to be completed by 2031, includes a new parallel runway and state-of-the-art terminal infrastructure to accommodate growing passenger traffic and modernize facilities. Upgrades to Terminal 2, the construction of two multi-level car parks, and the addition of a new on-site hotel will further enhance the airport’s capacity and services, ensuring it remains competitive in the global aviation market.

A Collaborative Approach to Tourism Promotion

Perth Airport is not only focused on expanding its aviation capacity but also on positioning Perth as a top international destination for tourists. The airport works closely with Tourism Western Australia to promote the city’s attractions and unique cultural offerings to a global audience. In the beginning of 2025, the airport partnered in organizing Routes Asia 2025, a prominent event that drew airlines and airport industry leaders from throughout the region. This event highlighted Perth’s growth potential and attracted key international airline interest, showcasing the city’s tourism appeal and further enhancing its profile as a hub for international travel.

Perth Airport’s role as a critical aviation gateway continues to grow as the airport invests in new partnerships, infrastructure development, and tourism promotion. The future holds exciting prospects as the airport works to meet the needs of an ever-expanding global passenger base, cementing its place as one of Australia’s most important international airports.
