Australias remote towns afflicted even after flood laden evacuations

The dire situation inflicted by floods inundated remote parts of Victoria State in Australia, which led to hundreds of people’s exodus.

Around seventy miles north of Melbourne, the rural communities of Seymour and Yea, all of which were catastrophically impacted, were the cause of the disaster. Authorities have issued an emergency evacuation order to residents and passersby due to potentially life-threatening floodwaters.

There was a spree of flood alerts and thunderstorms that were perpetrated throughout Victoria, as the torrential downpours left the roads inundated with water. According to Victoria State Emergency Services, authorities responded to nearly 1,000 calls for assistance and rescued 38 people from the flooding.

Ms. Allan stated on Tuesday that ten to twelve homes in Seymour had apparently been flooded, but the extent of all of the flooding was yet to be ascertained.

The spokesperson further added that what people were witnessing in Seymour was that the floodwaters reached their highest point the night before at 6.8 metres. This was a result of that sudden peak elevation. Almost 10 to 12 properties have been submerged due to the floods.

That number will, of course, be confirmed as soon as the water levels start to recede and it is safe for the crews to enter and carry out the impact assessment on residences, places of business, community assets, and the road network.

The media was informed by Ms. Allan that people should not leave their homes just yet because the flood levels in Seymour were 5.8 meters.

After inundating parks, foothill fields, and roadways, floodwaters had returned to the Goulburn River by early Tuesday.

Almost every storefront in the Seymour town centre had sandbags on Tuesday, but most of the businesses were still closed because of the ongoing alerts.

Locals were on edge, fearing the worst every time heavy rain drenched the area, according to Cafe96 owner Freya Grant, who welcomed customers on Tuesday despite the ongoing warnings.

According to Ms. Grant, residents of Seymour felt abandoned by the government, pointing out that the area was underfunded and that the waterways were improperly maintained.
