Austrian Airlines and ÖBB are expanding their successful cooperation with the “AIRail” product, which has allowed for a relaxed journey to Vienna Airport by train since December 2014. “AIRail” connects the city centers of Linz, Salzburg, and Graz to Vienna Airport, from where passengers can continue to fly worldwide with Austrian Airlines. The offering has been growing in popularity among travelers. To meet the increasing demand, the frequency on the Western route will be increased to a 30-minute interval starting December 10, 2023, which corresponds to an average increase of around 18 connections per day. There will be a total of 10 connections in both directions daily to Graz.

Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann emphasizes, “I am convinced that for every journey, depending on individual time and budget constraints, there is an appropriate mode of transportation or the right combination of modes. More than 95 percent of our domestic short-haul passengers are transfer passengers who come to Vienna to fly to destinations worldwide. This is the area where we closely collaborate with ÖBB. By expanding our ‘AIRail’ offering, we make combined travel even more attractive.”

For Austrian Airlines passengers, the journey to Vienna Airport will become even more comfortable with the increased frequency, with up to over 50 connections per day available on the routes to and from Linz and Salzburg. With “AIRail,” passengers can reach all Austrian Airlines destinations with just one ticket. In addition to easy booking, including check-in on austrian.com, travelers also enjoy a connection guarantee in case of train delays or incidents.

ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä adds, “With the expanded ‘AIRail’ offering, we provide more opportunities to combine a flight flexibly and environmentally friendly with a train journey in Austria. With up to 50 Railjet connections per day to and from Linz and Salzburg, and 10 Railjet connections to and from Graz, the train is ideal for traveling to Vienna Airport.”

The benefits at a glance

In addition to the flight, Austrian Airlines guests can also earn miles for “AIRail” routes as part of the Miles & More program. Passengers on ÖBB Railjet trains benefit from free Wi-Fi and a snack voucher that can be redeemed in the train restaurant. Austrian Business-Class guests enjoy the comfort of first class on the train and also have free access to the ÖBB lounge before departure.
