On January 28 at 1:55 p.m., the Austrian Airlines plane chartered by the ÖOC with the flight number OS63 took off from Vienna Airport to bring athletes, coaches and comprehensive equipment non-stop to Beijing. “We are delighted that the Austrian Olympic Committee has chosen Austrian Airlines as its partner for the 9.5-hour flight to Beijing,” said Austrian Airlines COO Francesco Sciortino. “We are united by the joy of sporting competition and international connections. Athletes as well as Austrian Airlines are ambassadors for Austria. Together we carry the colors red-white-red out into the world.”

“Through the cooperation with Austrian Airlines, a large part of the Olympic Team Austria can fly directly from Vienna to Beijing. In addition, it is a great relief that we save a significant amount of money by being able to charter. The Austrian Olympic participants have been enjoying the benefits of Austrian Airlines on their trips to the Olympic Games for 30 years,” says ÖOC President Karl Stoss.

Exactly 30 years ago, in 1992, the domestic airline transported Austria’s top athletes safely and reliably to the Winter Olympics in Albertville for the first time. This was followed by flights to Lillehammer (1994), Nagano (1998), Salt Lake City (2002), Turin (2006), Vancouver (2010), Sochi (2014), Pyeongchang (2018) and now Beijing. “Our crew will ensure a comfortable journey so that the Olympic team arrives in Beijing relaxed. We wish successful competitions,” said Francesco Sciortino.
