Avianca has revealed plans to seek approval from Colombian and Brazilian aviation authorities to operate a direct route between Bogota and Brasilia during the year-end season. This move by the Colombian airline is intended to enhance the service offerings on this route, complementing the frequencies already requested by Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aéreas for the same destination.

Currently, Avianca and GOL Linhas Aéreas are in partnership through interline connections and a codeshare agreement, which encompasses over 80 routes and more than 60 destinations. This agreement facilitates seamless connections for customers across the networks of both airlines.

Frederico Pedreira, the CEO and president of Avianca, emphasized the significance of Colombia and Brazil as major air markets in Latin America. He noted that both Bogota and Brasilia serve as critical hubs in the region. The potential new route is being considered as a strategic move to further connect and serve more customers, while also aiming to bolster Avianca’s cargo operations. Moreover, the initiative is seen as a way to promote tourism and business not only between Colombia and Brazil but also across Avianca’s extensive network, which spans over 75 destinations in 25 countries.

This proposed expansion could have significant implications for the global airline travel and tourism sector, particularly in enhancing connectivity between two of Latin America’s largest economies. By facilitating direct travel between Bogota and Brasilia, Avianca aims to improve passenger experience and increase travel efficiency, which could lead to heightened tourist and business exchanges between the two nations and beyond. Such developments are likely to enhance the airline’s competitive edge in the international market and contribute positively to the travel industry by broadening options for travelers and potentially increasing travel frequency due to improved convenience.
