Axarquia’s tourism association connects with Network of Smart Tourist Destinations

In Axarquia, Spain, the Association for the Promotion of Tourism has been admitted to the Network of Intelligent Tourist Destinations. It’s a project endorsed by the Secretary of State for Tourism. The chief intention of it is to develop the tourist destination’s competitiveness and improve the life quality of their residents by targeting on five areas: innovation, authority, technology, accessibility and sustainability.


Álvaro Hurtado, the president of APTA, said that Axarquia will be present via association, taking part in the Network’s plenary commissions, where we will represent our suggestions and participate in the existing working groups. On June 10th, APTA’s membership was approved.


To the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations, this brings the number of members to 543, after the support of the Plenary Commission and amalgamation of 24 new members. The commission was chaired by the Fernando Valdés. 370 are full destinations out of 543 members; 79 are institutions; 91 of them are collaborators; and three- international observers.
