Baguio City is set to enhance its electrified mobility as part of a new partnership between ACMobility, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), and the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC). The initiative aims to establish a robust electric vehicle (EV) charging network in key locations throughout Baguio, particularly at the well-known Camp John Hay.

The move comes as the city strives to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly travel options, particularly among tourists visiting the region during peak seasons. Baguio, known for its cool climate and rich cultural heritage, has already become a popular tourist destination. This development will allow visitors to travel sustainably while enjoying all of the city’s attractions.

Strategic Locations for Electric Vehicle Charging in Camp John Hay

The partnership introduces eight new electric vehicle charging stations spread across three key areas within Camp John Hay. These strategic locations include the Garden Wing, the Public Parking Area, and the Golf Club—each chosen to ensure convenience and accessibility for tourists and residents alike.

At the heart of this project is Baguio’s first DC Fast Charger, located at the Garden Wing. This state-of-the-art 60kW charger is capable of providing a full recharge in as little as 30 minutes, offering a quick and efficient solution for drivers. Two additional 22 kW AC chargers will also be available at the same location, giving users a range of options depending on their vehicle’s charging needs.

The Public Parking Area will host two more 22kW AC chargers, while the Golf Club hub will be equipped with two 7kW chargers. These installations are a significant step forward in the city’s electrification efforts, ensuring that both residents and visitors will have access to reliable charging facilities when travelling to Baguio.

An Eco-Friendly Solution for Travelers

Baguio City has long been a favorite destination for both local and international tourists, especially during the holiday season. However, the increase in vehicle traffic has contributed to air pollution and environmental degradation. The introduction of electric vehicle charging stations will help address these issues by offering a sustainable solution to tourists who prefer eco-friendly transportation options.

By providing easy access to reliable EV charging points, the city is encouraging the use of electric vehicles and promoting cleaner air. Moreover, the collaboration between ACMobility, BCDA, and JHMC highlights the shared commitment to fostering a greener travel experience, making Baguio a more attractive destination for environmentally conscious visitors.

Seamless User Experience with the Evro App

One of the key features of this new EV charging infrastructure is the integration with the Evro app, a user-friendly platform designed to simplify the charging process. Through the Evro app, users can locate available charging stations, check their status in real-time, and initiate charging sessions. The app also offers the convenience of online payments, making the entire process seamless and hassle-free for EV owners.

This technological innovation not only makes EV charging more accessible but also adds an extra layer of convenience for visitors who are unfamiliar with the city. With the app, travelers can plan their trips to Baguio with confidence, knowing that they will have access to dependable charging stations when they need them most.

Building the Philippine EV Spine: A Vision for the Future

ACMobility, the company behind the development of the country’s electrified mobility infrastructure, has ambitious plans for the future. This initiative is part of the broader strategy to establish the Philippine EV Spine, a nationwide network of EV charging stations aimed at creating a seamless travel experience for electric vehicle owners across the country.

With the completion of this new charging infrastructure in Baguio, ACMobility is on track to deploy more stations nationwide as part of its long-term commitment to support the transition to electric mobility. The goal is to make electric vehicles a more viable option for everyday travel, reducing the nation’s carbon footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future.

The Role of BCDA and JHMC in Sustainable Tourism

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has played a critical role in this initiative, providing leadership in the management and development of Camp John Hay, a key tourism and ecotourism destination in Baguio. By introducing EV charging infrastructure in such a strategic location, BCDA is not only enhancing the convenience of travel for tourists but also supporting the city’s push for eco-friendly tourism.

Similarly, the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) has been instrumental in managing the area’s infrastructure and overseeing the integration of sustainable initiatives. Together, these organizations are working towards the shared goal of positioning Baguio as a model for sustainable tourism in the Philippines.

Future Expansion and Benefits for Tourists and Locals

The new EV charging stations at Camp John Hay are just the beginning. Additional AC and DC chargers are slated for installation in the coming months, further expanding the charging network and providing even more options for EV users. This expansion will ensure that Baguio’s electric vehicle infrastructure continues to grow alongside the city’s popularity as a tourist destination.

For tourists, this means more opportunities to enjoy a stress-free visit to the city without worrying about where to charge their electric vehicles. For residents, the expanded infrastructure supports a more sustainable way of life, helping to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote cleaner air in the region.

A Green Future for Baguio and Beyond

The installation of electric vehicle charging stations at Camp John Hay marks a significant milestone in Baguio City’s transition to greener, more sustainable tourism. With the help of ACMobility, BCDA, and JHMC, the city is well on its way to becoming a pioneer in electrified mobility in the Philippines.

As the country embraces the transition to sustainable travel, the expansion of the Philippine EV Spine will play an important role in allowing visitors to explore the country in an environmentally friendly manner. With Baguio leading the charge, the city’s tourism future looks brighter, greener, and more accessible than ever.
