Bahrain Elevates Status: Manama Named 2024 GCC Tourism Capital

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) is gearing up to unveil a range of pioneering initiatives designed to strengthen Bahrain’s status as a top global tourist destination. The announcement follows Bahrain’s outstanding accomplishment of having Manama selected as the Gulf region’s tourism capital for 2024 at the seventh meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries’ tourism ministers.


The honor of naming “Manama” as the capital of Gulf tourism for 2024 stands as a testament to Bahrain’s remarkable contributions to the Gulf tourism sector’s development. It was made possible in large part by the Kingdom of Bahrain’s vision of realizing the potential of tourism as a crucial industry capable of fostering economic growth and ensuring sustainable development. With the intention of not only enhancing its status as a significant center for regional and worldwide travelers but also promoting deeper tourism cooperation within the GCC area, Bahrain is committed to nurturing a flourishing and dynamically expanding tourism sector.


Dr. Nasser Ali Qaedi, CEO of, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) stated that they take immense pride in this accomplishment in the Kingdom’s tourism sector, highlighting it as evidence of a series of successful tourism initiatives spanning local, regional, and international levels.


He says, “The Kingdom has positioned the tourism sector at the forefront of its developmental agenda. This strategic position acknowledges the sector’s pivotal role in driving sustainable development. Under this vision, substantial investments have been channeled into expanding tourism infrastructure, refining tourism services, and establishing high-quality facilities.”


Dr. Qaedi highlighted that through their close collaboration with public and private sector partners, BTEA consistently forges success stories, working tirelessly to realize the ambitious tourism objectives outlined in the 2022-2026 strategy. He further states, “We assure our GCC visitors of an exceptional tourism year ahead. Anticipate the launch of several high-quality tourism initiatives and an array of exclusive travel packages tailored for GCC citizens and residents; these offerings are meticulously designed to attract a broader audience, enhancing tourism appeal across all sectors.”
