Bali Leads Indonesia’s Push for Modern Visa Services, New Mall Immigration Lounge Set to Transform Traveler Convenience in 2026

Published on December 11, 2025

Indonesia is preparing to introduce a new wave of traveler-focused immigration services, with Bali leading the transformation through upgraded facilities, digital improvements, and a groundbreaking plan to open an Immigration Lounge inside a shopping mall. Designed to bring visa-related services closer to everyday public spaces, this move marks a notable shift toward convenience and accessibility for international visitors and long-stay guests.

The concept gained momentum after a special two-day pop-up event in a Kuta shopping center in December 2025. During this trial, foreigners were able to access visa services while enjoying the ease and comfort of a mall setting. The temporary lounge offered an environment far different from the structured atmosphere of standard immigration offices, and the positive turnout confirmed that travelers appreciated this more approachable format. Following its success, immigration teams announced plans to open a permanent Immigration Lounge in 2026. The final mall location has yet to be confirmed, but anticipation is already growing as the initiative promises a more user-friendly approach to managing visa needs.

This project reflects Indonesia’s wider efforts to modernize and simplify its immigration processes. Although the country has improved its digital platforms, certain visa procedures—such as extensions—still require visitors to appear at an immigration office. Under the Hybrid Application System, applicants must complete the online portion and then attend an in-person appointment to finalize the extension. For those staying outside central areas like Denpasar, this often means navigating long traffic routes and dedicating several hours to a short appointment.

Recognizing the need for better geographical access, immigration services in Bali expanded in November with two new regional offices opening in Tabanan Regency and Klungkung Regency. These new facilities are bringing essential immigration services closer to communities where tourism and long-term stays are growing rapidly.

The Tabanan office, positioned near the central district area, benefits travelers staying in trending destinations such as Canggu, Kedungu, and Bedugul. These regions have seen increased interest from remote workers, digital nomads, and long-stay tourists, making nearby immigration support especially valuable. On the eastern side of the island, the Klungkung office located along a main road in Semarapura now serves visitors based in Candidasa, Semarapura, and the surrounding region. Both offices operate as Class III Immigration Offices, offering core services while easing traffic from the busier administrative hubs in the south.

For many tourists visiting Bali for shorter holidays, visa procedures remain uncomplicated. The 30-day eVisa on Arrival is a widely used option and can be obtained online through the official e-visa platform. Applications may be submitted up to 72 hours before flying into Indonesia, though applying earlier is encouraged to ensure a smooth travel experience. The visa fee stands at IDR 500,000 and includes the advantage of using automated immigration gates at Bali’s international airport, reducing processing times during arrival and departure.

The introduction of mall-based visa services is expected to redefine the overall experience for travelers needing extensions or administrative support. Combining immigration services with commercial spaces allows visitors to handle official matters in a setting that feels convenient, modern, and integrated into daily life. Instead of dedicating half a day to a government office visit, travelers may soon be able to take care of visa requirements while browsing shops or enjoying a meal—an approach that blends efficiency with comfort.

These improvements come as Bali continues to experience steady growth in tourism, with more travelers choosing extended stays and flexible travel lifestyles. The rise of remote work has also contributed to a higher number of visitors staying longer than traditional vacation periods, making streamlined immigration services a crucial part of the island’s evolving tourism landscape.

The upcoming Immigration Lounge represents a significant step toward making Bali’s administrative systems more welcoming and accessible. As the island prepares for its launch in 2026, expectations are high that the new lounge will support a smoother experience not only for tourists but also for long-stay residents and those returning frequently for business or leisure.

With expanded regional offices, enhanced digital options, and the upcoming mall-based lounge, Indonesia is moving closer to offering some of the most traveler-friendly immigration services in the region. Bali, long celebrated for its hospitality and vibrant tourism scene, is now strengthening its reputation by ensuring that essential visa procedures are as simple and stress-free as possible.
