Bali relies on ‘impulsive tourism’ trend to achieve goal of 1.4 billion in 2023

Buoyed by the ‘impulsive tourism’ trend, Bali in Indonesia expects the domestic tourism sector to record 1.4 billion tourist movement in 2023. The country’s Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno on Monday asserted his optimism of reaching the set goal.

“We will attempt to accelerate our efforts to reach the 1.4 billion domestic tourist movement through the impulsive tourism trend, with a GDP contribution of over 4 percent,” said Sandiaga Uno in the ministry’s weekly press brief on January 16.

He believes this will be boosted after the government lifts the coronavirus public activity restriction.
He explains that the OYO report data backs the ‘impulsive tourism’ trend which shows that the people who traveled impulsively in 2022 increased by 14 percent with more than 2.4 million bookings conducted one day prior to traveling.

“What’s interesting is that many only booked [accommodations] on the day of their travel,” said the Minister.

Bali is said to be the main destination for the New Year’s celebration, followed by other major cities, such as Bandung, Jogja, Jakarta, and Semarang.

Meanwhile, spiritual and cultural destinations have attracted large attention of domestic tourists.

Tourist villages have also become a destination of choice for tourists who travel impulsively. The Tinalai Tourism Village in Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta, is an example, where the estimated number of visits almost doubled from 3,300 to 6,000.
