For 2022, Bangkok Airways has contracted its operating loss, as revenues twofold on the back of major growth in the number of passengers. The airline, for the year ended 31st December 2022, posted an operating loss of Bt889 million ($25.6 million), enhancing on 2021’s Bt2.5 billion loss when much of Thailand remained close, as informed by a news report in Flight Global.

Annually, the operating revenue doubled to Bt12.7 billion, with passenger travel revenue witnessing six-times huge bound. In last year, the airline carried 2.6 million passengers. It’s about five times higher than the year before.

Nevertheless, the airline pinpointed that its system-wide capacity remains well underneath the levels of the pre-pandemic times. In spite of resuming many international routes, even adding to the frequencies on some of them, the airline explains that it was functioning at 40% pre-pandemic capacity at end-2022.

Full-year costs increased to 69% i.e. Bt13.8 billion, led mostly by fuel cost increase with other expenses related to operation increasing annually as more flights restarted. A net loss of Bt2.1 billion was posted by Bangkok Airways; narrowing from the Bt8.5 billion net loss posted just a year back. With 35 aircraft, the airline ended the year, two aircraft fewer than the year before.
