Transforming the Green Season: A National Tourism Opportunity

H.E. Minister Huot Hak emphasized that the MoU will help implement the “Visit Cambodia in the Green Season” campaign, transforming the so-called low season into a period of enhanced tourism opportunities. The campaign highlights Cambodia’s lush landscapes, pristine natural scenery, and wellness retreats, creating year-round visitor flows.

Three key visions guide the campaign:

  1. Enhancing Cambodia’s international appeal to attract new markets;
  2. Promoting domestic tourism, encouraging local travel and engagement;
  3. Expanding tourist flows during the Green Season, generating investment and job opportunities within the hospitality sector.

By reframing the Green Season, the country creates future opportunities for hotel operators, tour guides, wellness providers, and community-based tourism initiatives, contributing to sustainable tourism sector expansion.

Education and Tourism Integration Drives Workforce and Sector Growth

The MoU reinforces the mutual benefits of tourism and education, ensuring the development of qualified professionals in hospitality, tour operations, and destination management. Curriculum integration and practical training programs will prepare students to meet rising demand in high-value tourism, including eco-tourism, cultural tourism, adventure travel, and wellness tourism.

This focus on workforce development strengthens Cambodia’s tourism infrastructure, ensures quality service delivery, and positions the country to capture future tourism market opportunities, including regional and international collaborations.

A Model for Sustainable Tourism Development

H.E. Minister Huot Hak highlighted that the MoU is not merely symbolic but represents a shared vision for resilient, sustainable, and inclusive tourism growth. The collaboration demonstrates best practices for integrating education with tourism, fostering innovation, sustainability, and high-quality visitor experiences.

By aligning tourism education with industry needs, Cambodia enhances its ability to adapt to global travel trends, expand hospitality offerings, and generate long-term economic benefits across urban and rural tourism destinations.

Expanding Hospitality and Tourism Sector Opportunities

The MoU opens new opportunities for investment, innovation, and market growth. By equipping professionals with skills in sustainable practices, digital tourism, and customer experience, Cambodia ensures a pipeline of talent capable of supporting future hotel developments, tour services, cultural tourism initiatives, and eco-tourism projects.

This integrated approach encourages private sector participation, promotes innovative tourism products, and strengthens Cambodia’s position as a competitive destination in Southeast Asia, ready to attract higher-value travelers and long-term investments in the hospitality sector.

Future Outlook: Driving Tourism Sector Resilience and Growth

From this analysis, it can be seen that H.E. Minister Huot Hak was confident about this MoU becoming the standard of cooperation in tourism sector education in terms of sustainability and innovation to ensure the success of the Cambodian tourism industry. The MoU will promote cooperation and coordination to enable Cambodia to utilize its tourism opportunities throughout the year while creating quality tourist experiences as well as building hospitality facilities in Cambodia for the future opportunities within the tourism sector.
