Recently, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) received its first-ever direct flight coming all the way from Minsk, the Belarusian capital, which landed safely at U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport on January 9, 2026. Belavia Belarusian Airlines has announced its first route expansion, consisting of flights to Pattaya, which began last January 9, 2026, together with flights to another destination, which is Phuket, beginning January 12, 2026. This airline expansion is part of the strategy of the TAT regarding its focus on airlines.
The launch of Belavia’s direct routes to Pattaya and Phuket enhances Thailand’s long-haul network, connecting the kingdom to new European markets with growing travel demand. Ms. Suladda Sarutilavan, Director of TAT’s Europe Region, emphasized that these new routes provide essential direct access to Thailand’s key beach resorts, which is vital to maintaining the country’s global competitiveness as a top leisure destination. This connectivity will be crucial for attracting high-value tourists from Eastern Europe, particularly from Belarus, who are looking for quality vacation experiences in Thailand’s resorts, beaches, and cultural sites.
The new routes will not only increase tourism from Belarus but also serve as a bridge to other Eastern European countries, enhancing the overall growth of European tourism in Thailand.
Thailand’s tourism sector has seen significant growth in recent years, and this new partnership with Belavia is expected to further fuel this momentum. Direct flights between Minsk and Thailand provide both Belarusian nationals and European tourists with more affordable and efficient access to the country. Previously, Belarusian travelers had to take connecting flights through Russia or Dubai, making the trip to Thailand more complicated and expensive. The introduction of these direct flights offers a seamless, attractive option for travelers, which will likely result in higher tourist arrivals and a boost to Thailand’s tourism revenue.

Belarusian tourists are emerging as a key market for Thailand’s tourism sector. With an average stay of 10 days, they are considered long-stay travelers, making them a particularly valuable demographic for Thailand’s eco-tourism, wellness tourism, and adventure tourism sectors. In 2025, tourist arrivals from Belarus to Thailand reached 32,179, a 56.48% increase from the previous year. This growth highlights the increasing appeal of Thailand to Belarusian visitors, who prefer the country’s affordable and high-quality travel experiences.
By expanding air connectivity with direct flights, Thailand can attract more long-stay tourists from Belarus and other Eastern European markets, which will not only drive revenue but also encourage repeat visits, fostering a more sustainable tourism model.

In addition to traditional beach tourism, Belavia’s new routes will further boost adventure tourism and eco-tourism in Phuket and Pattaya. These regions have seen a rise in demand for outdoor activities such as water sports, hiking, and wildlife tourism. The growing interest in nature-based tourism among European travelers presents an opportunity for Thailand to diversify its tourism offerings and develop sustainable tourism initiatives.
The eco-tourism sector in Thailand is increasingly becoming a major draw for international travelers, with the country offering unique natural attractions like national parks, islands, and marine reserves. The new routes to Phuket and Pattaya will contribute to this growth, bringing in tourists who seek immersive natural experiences alongside Thailand’s traditional cultural tourism.
The long-term impact of Belavia’s direct flights extends beyond immediate tourism growth. The connectivity will strengthen Thailand’s position as a leading global destination and foster tourism diversification, allowing the country to cater to a broader range of travel tastes and budgets. As Belarusian and Eastern European markets continue to grow, Thailand will benefit from a steady stream of high-value tourists, leading to more sustainable growth in the tourism industry.
In the coming years, these direct flights are expected to further expand Thailand’s reach into Eastern European markets, tapping into new demographic groups and tourist profiles. As Belavia continues to strengthen its partnership with Thailand, the country’s tourism sector will likely see expanded market opportunities and greater diversification in its tourist base, ensuring long-term economic sustainability and growth.
The advent of the direct flights from Belarus’ flag-carrier, Belavia, to Pattaya and Phuket is yet another major success in the growth and development of Thailand’s tourism sector. The new air routes provide for an expected increase in tourist visitations to Thailand from Belarus and Eastern Europe, which is poised to ensure the long-term success of the tourism industry in Thailand. As the growth and development in the tourism industry continue, it can be ensured in the future that Thailand will continue to lead in the field of tourism for many decades to come.
