BARIG welcomes Berlin Brandenburg Airport to its network, enhancing collaboration in Germany’s aviation industry for improved operations and efficiency.
The Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG) has recently expanded its partner network by incorporating Berlin Brandenburg Airport. This move signifies a deeper collaboration among airlines in Germany and key stakeholders across various aviation sectors, aiming to address the diverse challenges faced by the industry.
Michael Hoppe, the Chairman and Executive Director of BARIG, highlights the critical role of well-orchestrated airport operations in ensuring efficient air travel. “The addition of Berlin Brandenburg, the capital city’s airport, to our network is a significant development. Through proactive dialogue, we aim to spearhead vital initiatives and pursue enhancements that benefit airlines, their passengers, and freight clients,” he states.
Berlin Brandenburg Airport, serving the German capital region, reported approximately 23 million passengers last year, with a majority flying on BARIG member airlines. Starting January 1, 2024, the airport’s managing company assumed responsibility for passenger and luggage security checks at BER, previously managed by the Federal Police. This transition aims to minimize wait times for travelers. Furthermore, the airport is set to upgrade its security checkpoints with cutting-edge CT scanners, streamlining and expediting the screening process.
Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH highlights: “At BER, we put great emphasis on innovation in order to offer our customers the best possible service and make maximum use of the airport’s potential. The most recent example for that is the takeover of responsibility and management of aviation security controls and the associated investment in new screening technology. We are looking forward to the dialog with BARIG and its international airline representatives. Together, we want to further advance air traffic for the capital region and eastern Germany.”
